Meet Our Provider: Candace Reusch MSN, APRN, FNP-C, Partner

One of the first things you notice about Candace Reusch is how good you feel in her company. She lives for that.

Born in San Bernardino, CA, Candace moved to Florence, KY when she was a toddler. She grew up experiencing the best of the Kentucky outdoors in a house surrounded by 500 acres. She spent summers four-wheeling, swimming, and, in high school, competitive cheerleading.

Early on, Candace knew she really had a passion for science, and her studies reflected this. She realized in high school that she wanted a career helping other people. “My mother had some health issues, and I helped take care of her,” she said. “I saw the difference I could make for someone. So I began to realize that I liked making people feel better, and it ultimately became what I wanted to do with my life.”

At 17, she moved to Lexington to start undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky. After getting an associate degree in Science, she earned her BA in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University.

Then she went to work at University of Kentucky Hospital in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit. This high-pressure position required caring for critically ill and injured people, many with head trauma. A strong critical thinker, especially in stressful situations, Candace excelled at her position.

It was around this time that a unique sequence of events sent Candace down a different career trajectory. In 2016, she partnered with RN Jennifer Walsh to begin Zero Gravity Aesthetics, which was voted Northern Kentucky’s favorite med spa twice in its first two years by Northern Kentucky Magazine.

While the med spa expanded its offerings of aesthetic services, Candace and Jen continued to provide wellness and common illness care. They put procedures and systems in place to make sure they provided patients with the utmost in safety, as well as exceptional care. Since both came from ICU nursing backgrounds, they demanded the discipline needed to check and verify everything before any treatment. And when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and they couldn’t provide aesthetic services, Candace and Jennifer traveled to Florida to help with testing and treatment of COVID patients in that hard-hit state.

As the pandemic subsided and they turned their attention back to the med spa, they realized there was still a need for rapid COVID testing, and an expanded need for primary care services.

This led to the expansion of their business to include ZG Wellness as a separate entity. Services have expanded to include a spectrum of primary care offerings, plus dermatology, and Candace, as a nurse practitioner, is able to treat patients and write prescriptions.

What does Candace do when she’s not working? Chances are, you’ll find her on the water. Her favorite leisure activity is boating. She, her husband David, their two dogs (Allie and Chula) and two cats (Loki and Jovi) spend many summer weekends on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky or Norris Lake in Tennessee, with lots of nieces and nephews. All with everyone feeling great when they’re around Candace.
